Open Source Afro Hair Library is proud to announce Black Power-Ups!, a new series of full-body character models inspired by one of Black Twitter’s most hilarious moments–Negro Solstice. This milestone release for The Afro Hair Library celebrates the boundless creativity of Black digital culture.

The Blackstory: A Black Twitter Christmas

In December 2020, eight months into COVID-19, a visionary tweet was born. One user claimed that on the winter solstice, Black people would awaken superpowers that we’d always possessed, hidden beneath centuries of oppression. Black Twitter ran wild; within a matter of hours hundreds of pfps were edited to add laser eyes and kufi hats as we collectively waited to launch an organically coordinated meme assault on December 21st 2020. IYKYK.

A Milestone for The Afro Hair Library

This is a big first for The Afro Hair Library: Black Power-Ups! brings full-body character models to the stage. These designs are rich with detail and unapologetically rooted in Black culture, humor, and brilliance. Whether you’re crafting a game, a film, or just vibing with the idea of creating a digital Wakanda, these models are here to inspire.
